When we first started receiving Graham's artwork and especially his character designs - it's safe to say it was a rather good day in the studio.
Grahams characters were so beautifully layered that turning them into animated marionettes was quite a natural progression. As we animated them we decided it best to keep their two dimensional appeal to celebrate the puppet show nature of the films.
Simon worked closely with Graham, crafting ideas of how each of the environments could be woven together to create the final full film that compromised the three individual journeys.
By using After Effects native 2.5D workspace we could mimic the personal lighting and subsequent shadows a puppet show would have, bringing an extra level of atmosphere to Graham's striking landscapes.
